Improv

Last week I posted examples of fusion dance (often called "Tribal Fusion")  Here are some examples of traditional tribal style dance, which is all mostly improvisation.  This means that one person leads and everyone else follows her cues.

Fat Chance Bellydance is the original tribal group and call their style American Tribal Style or ATS.

Devyani - an ATS group from Birmingham, AL

Gypsy Caravan - led by Paulette.  This is still improv by a different style, with slightly different rules.

Atlanta's own Awalim (sponsors of Tribalcon)

And finally, to give you an idea of how varied the description of Tribal Dance is, a montage of opinions from well known tribal dancers.

Fusion!

A few examples of fusion dance.  This is very hip hop inspired, but fusion is any time you mix non-middle eastern dance or music into belly dance.  These are a few I love.

Zoe and Beats Antique (for those of you who missed Saturday's show - here's a sample of what they do)

Frank Farinino - amazing muscle control and a really nice guy!

And finally, Unmata.  Amy Sigil is super cool and her dancing is unlike anything I've ever seen!!  (BTW, this is all improv or follow the leader!!)
